Management of the Post-Tracheostomy Tracheal Stenosis




Abstract
Tracheal stenosis represents a significant cause of airway obstruction and frequent presents difficult dilemmas in management. Authors had experienced 7 cases of post-trachestomy tracheal stenosis at the Department of Otolaryngology Keimyung University School o Medicine, and analized.
The following results were obtained:
1) Etiologic factors were improper size of tube and long standing use of cuff tube. 2) Most frequent stenotic site was suprastoma area.
3) Limited local stenosis were well managed by the use of silicone T-tube.
4) The procedure of stepped incision and insertion of rolled silastic stent in great length
of tracheal, stenosis had made tracheal lumen wide relatively.
5) We had experienced granulation formation after T-tube removal especially at the contact
portion of inferior tip of T-tube.
